I had a quarter life crisis and raised my right hand to defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. I had always wanted to serve and I enjoyed the WW2 concept of the "Citizen Soldier."
I left the perfect life of being a residence hall director on the beach of San Diego and went off to basic combat training, officer candidate school, and then military intelligence school. I was posted in Fairbanks, AK and served as the primary S-2 (intelligence officer) for HHC, 25th BSB, 1-25 SBCT for three years. I was deployed to Kandahar Air Base in support of OEF 2011-2012 for 12 months. I came off active duty in October 2012 so that I could pursue graduate school full time. I was a 1LT (promotable) when I came off active duty and due to the fact that there were too many CPTs in the Army at the time, all 1LT(P)s were forced to wait an extra 6 months to pin CPT. Since I was an OCS commission, I only had to serve 3 years so I had a choice: stay in for a bit longer and pin CPT during my terminal leave or go on the most epic Caribou hunting trips on the North Slope of the Arctic Circle and the White Mountains or pin CPT. I may be looking to get back into the Reserves or National Guard. Below are 7x patches from WW2 that I had the privilege of wearing on my uniform for my 4 years of Active duty service. Thank you for taking the time and looking at my quilts. I am proud to have collected and put these projects together so that we can honor those who have gone before us that protected the freedoms that we are blessed with today. -Steve |
